Québec Vrai will certify Farmstead Cheese

In accordance with the Act respecting reserved designations and added-value claims in Québec, the Conseil des appellations réservées et des termes valorisants (CARTV) gave notice in the Gazette officielle du Québec on January 2, 2022 that the Certification Body Québec Vrai is accredited to certify products that can bear the term Farmstead Cheese. This approval by the CARTV follows the positive recommendation issued by the CAEQ.

The Quebec Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food authorized the added-value claim Fromge fermier and its English translation Farmstead Cheese on December 15, 2021, under Ministerial Order 76026 published in the Gazette officielle du Québec, Volume 153, No. 50.

A Farmstead Cheese is made by a producer-cheesemaker using traditional techniques from milk coming only from his farm. It is the first added-value claim for Quebec.
