Accreditation to support sustainable development

Did you know that accreditation can contribute to achieving the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals? In order to initiate a discussion on this topic, the World Accreditation Day in June 2021 was held under this theme.

The 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were adopted by the United Nations in 2015. They are a global call to action to eradicate poverty, protect the Planet and ensure that all people live in peace and prosperity by 2030.

In this context, accreditation helps to provide the technical foundation for society to function properly. By assessing the compliance of certifications in agricultural production, for example, accreditation ensures that consumers have access to safe, healthy, quality food.

In addition, because most of the standards on which the system is based are internationally agreed upon, accreditation facilitates trade between countries and creates competitive domestic markets. This contributes to socioeconomic development and well-being around the world.

In 2022, World Accreditation Day will be held under the following theme: Sustainability in Economic Growth and the Environment.

World Accreditation Day is an initiative of the International Accreditation Forum (IAF) and the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC). To learn more about this initiative, visit https://ilac.org/news-and-events/world-accreditation-day-2022/
